Review: The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Check out my review of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #1) Favorite Quote(s): “‘Now you’re just being cruel.’ ‘I like pushing your buttons.’ ‘You’d enjoy it more if you undid them first.’” Favorite Character: Noah Shaw. Please, tell me that this isn’t absolutely adorable: “‘If I were to live a thousand years, I would belong to you for all of them. If we were to live a thousand lives, I would want to make you mine in each one.’” First Line: “You will love him to ruins.” My Musings: Like the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, The Evolution of Mara Dyer has managed to sweep me off of my feet. Mara Dyer’s tale continues in the Evolution, with Mara waking up after her freak out at the police station in the Unbecoming. Mara, unfortunately, is again said to be insane, and winds up in an outpatient rehabilitation program called Horizons. But alas, everything is not lost: Jamie, her friend from Croyden is also at Horizons, and Mara isn’t in lock down. I really enjoy Hodkin’s writing. Mini Review: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Favorite Quote(s): “Thinking something does not make it true. Wanting something does not make it real.” Favorite Character: Noah. Love him to death. First Line: “The ornate script on the board twisted in the candlelight, making the letters and numbers dance in my head.” My Musings: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer was everything that everyone said that it would be. It was the perfect mix of thrill, mystery, danger, and romance. In this novel, we follow the life of Mara Dyer, who lived to be the only survivor of an accident that killed her friends. After moving to Miami, Florida, Mara tries to create a new life for herself—but she can’t get over the nagging feeling that it was her fault. Mara makes new friends (err, friend), and even snags the eye of bad boy Noah Shaw. But things aren’t always as they appear. The Unbecoming was written beautifully. Its descriptive prose was able to put me into the world of Mara, which I must admit, was very creepy, yet exhilarating. The concept of the novel is intriguing in itself; when I read the behind the story on Hodkin’s Simon and Schuster profile, I was amazed. The characters were well developed as well, and the plot kept me attached to the book for 5 hours straight. Noah, Daniel, and Mara have managed to worm their way into my heart, and […]
