Review: Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre (DNF)

The premise of this novel was really promising when I read the synopsis. Mortal Danger started off slow and just never picked up for me. It was a really difficult novel to get into because the pacing wasn’t the best. We follow Edie Kramer after she is stopped from committing suicide and offered a deal for three wishes now in return for three favors in the future. Edie’s first wish is to become beautiful so that she can sabotage the high schoolers who made fun of her from the inside. All the setting up in this novel had the ability to be promising but instead it just lacked. I found myself unable to read more than two chapters at a time due to boredom. I really wanted to enjoy this novel but there was just nothing exciting going on in the novel. I DNF’d at 51% and at that point, the novel still felt like it was going nowhere. Edie’s character wasn’t the best. She really came off as shallow and vengeful to me. Sure, these kids did unspeakable things to her, but it felt like the only thing she was devoted to was getting back at them. She hated them, supposedly.
