Review: Unethical by Jennifer Blackwood

When I saw the word medical, I was sold. After all, I am an aspiring doctor! Unethical was a unique novel for me. It was your standard new adult contemporary romance but its subject made it a lot more relatable and thus enjoyable for me. Payton Daniels is trying to make a new beginning at a new college. After all, there is a big scandal about her parents and assisted suicide, and Payton is afraid that it’ll ruin her chances at medical school. What she didn’t expect was to see her ex, Blake, again. They didn’t end on great terms—in fact, Payton just up and left. And Blake wasn’t too happy about that one. To make matters worse, they land a position at the same internship. There are still feelings between them, but a lot of baggage keeping the space large as ever. I think that what really made me enjoy this novel was its revolution around the subject of medical ethics. As an aspiring doctor, it was a unique experience for me to read about characters who were directly involved in something that I want to be involved in. Moreover, there was enough suspense about wondering if people would find out about Payton’s family and wondering what would happen between Blake and Payton to keep me practically glued to the book.
