Mini-Review: You Make Me by Erin McCarthy

“There is a danger when you leave the past behind, and reinvent your life, that at some point you’ll look at yourself, and no longer recognize who you see.” You Make Me was a great NA contemporary. Caitlyn spent a year falling in love with her foster brother who disappeared without a trace. So Caitlyn reinvents herself in college—the right boyfriend, the right friends, the right sorority. Then Heath shows back up and turns her world upside down once again.  “‘I could take you, but then I would own you because I made it happen. And what I love the most about you is your spirit, your independence. Your will. Taking you would be like trying to grab a wave and hold onto it…it’s impossible. It would wash away.’ He reached out and stroked the back of his hand down my cheek. ‘Do you understand that? I need it to be your choice, for both our sakes, even if holding back kills me.’” Caitlyn was a character that I liked. She wasn’t the most original but she didn’t let the past hold her down. She reinvented herself and made a name for herself, rising from the ashes of her past. She was a strong character though a bit hurt from past events. I liked reading her. Heath had his own troubles.
