Review: Rocked by Taryn Elliot & Cari Quinn

“He reached over and snagged a pepper from her cutting board. ‘Don’t make me cut off one of those precious fingers.’ Deacon grinned around a mouthful of red pepper. ‘I do love it when you threaten me in the kitchen.’ ‘You have weird kinks, big guy.’” “‘Keep it up, Harper.’ She slid her gaze over to his lap. ‘Oh, I intend to.’ ‘Jesus,’ he muttered as he come up too fast on a car in front of them.” “His jaw relaxed slightly. ‘I—’ She drove her fist into his belly. ‘Ow, dammit.’ She shook out her hand. He looked down at her with a single raised brow. ‘You don’t want me to hit anyone, but it’s okay if you do?’” I absolutely adore rock-star romances so when I saw this one of course I requested it. Rocked follows the story of Harper: a chef just out of culinary school hoping to scrape up some experience as a tour caterer. Harper is used to the band types—she grew up on the road with her roadie parents—so he knows all their smooth-talking tricks. But she didn’t imagine someone like Deacon McCoy, bassist in Oblivion, a band that is on the rise. Deacon’s pursuing of her is persistent and eventually Harper gives in. But the tour is coming to an end soon and they will be going their separate ways. But can they […]

Blog Tour Review: Playing Pretend by Juliana Haygert

“Mason and I—we had something special, I knew this. He knew this. And he was pretty special. And kind. And attentive. And handsome. And hot.” “I squeezed his hand, then let go because one touch would become a caress, a caress would ignite the fire in me, and we would end up in bed. I really wanted to sleep with him again, but he wanted to be my boyfriend, not my boy toy. Truth be told, I liked this.” “I turned to Mason and bit my lower lip. His brows shot up. ‘Hmm, what’s with the naughty look?’ I took another step into the ocean. ‘I know!’ He offered me a smile of his own. ‘You’re a mermaid. That’s why you’re entering the water. Are you going to leave me now?’ I laughed, and then kicked the water and showered him. Mason gasped, pretending to be shocked. ‘Oh, you’re going down.’” Playing Pretend follows Governor’s daughter, Charlotte McClain as she spends her spring break in California without her mother knowing. Charlotte’s mother has her on a tight leash so that she doesn’t ruin her image. So in an act of rebellion, Charlotte journey’s to California with her real friends, telling her mother that she is in Canada with who her mother thinks is her ‘best friend’. While in California, Charlotte meets Mason, and they hit it off. But they have […]

Review: Fierce by Clarissa Wild (DNF)

I picked up this novel because I love the idea of the good girl and bad boy, and I was hoping for something spectacular. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get into this novel at all. The plot was basic and uninteresting. I have a rule about DNFing a book, and that’s to get at least 25% of the way through it. And in this case, it couldn’t come fast enough. “I can’t believe I’m doing this. Why am I drooling like this? This is so unlike me. I never fall for the bad boy. I never like guys who act like him, aloof and cocky. Why is this so different?” The actual writing itself was plain and every sentence or two was a new paragraph, which irritated me because it made the novel harder to read. The two characters were both as shallow as it gets. Both of them lacked even a micrometer of depth, which made for not-very-engaged reading. The settings weren’t realistic– this novel was set on a college campus, and although I haven’t lived at college yet, I know people who have and this isn’t anywhere near a normal setting or experience. “It’s been days since I last saw Hunter. He hasn’t been to class, and I haven’t seen him walking around the dorm either. Something tells me he hasn’t even slept in his own room. I wonder […]

Review: Jordyn and the Caverns of Gloom by Tiffany King

Favorite Quote(s): “‘You never know, I could totally take advantage of you while you were drunk on my kisses.’ ‘That’s how you would decide to take advantage of me, by knocking me over the head?’” Favorite Character: Jordyn. Duh. First Line: “I couldn’t tell you what day of the week it was, and quite frankly, I didn’t care.” My Musings: I have to start out by saying that Tiffany King is one of the most Indie-Credible authors around. And if you didn’t know that, then check out my Indie-Credible tour stop and say hi to Tiffany, Jordyn, and Emrys. I had a blast getting to know all three of them better. Jordyn and the Caverns of Gloom pick up right where Jordyn left off. When Jordyn gets back from her five week hiatus, she is thrust right back into all of the action. Her and Emrys must venture into the Caverns of Gloom in order to save her best friend. “‘You have to wrestle it to the ground. Once you get them on their backs, they are unable to right themselves, something to do with the size of their legs.’ ‘Let me get this straight. You want to pimp me out to distract this goat thing by flashing him my belly button, all so you can wrestle him to the ground so he can’t get back up?’” Jordyn and the […]

Review: A Blaze of Sun by Bella Forrest

Check out my review of Shade of Vampire (Shade of Vampire #1) Check out my review of Shade of Blood (Shade of Vampire #2) Check out my review of A Castle of Sand (Shade of Vampire #3) Check out my review of A Shadow of Light (Shade of Vampire #4) Favorite Quote(s): “‘You on the other hand…there’s something about you, Derek Novak…that makes it easy for me to forgive and forget your numerous offenses against me. What is it about you?’ I raised a brow at her, unable to keep the grin from forming on my lips. ‘I think it’s the charm. You can’t resist my charm.’” Favorite Character: Sofia. First Line: “The moment I opened my eyes and woke up to the dim candle light of my bedroom, I couldn’t help but groan.” My Musings: First, I want to start off saying that Bella Forrest is both a phenomenal writer and person. She has created a unique world of vampires with this series, unlike anything that I’ve read before. So much happens in A Blaze of Sun! There’s talk of a cure, the return of a new enemy, an attack…and maybe something a little sweeter. This books was a fast-tracked roller coaster that just didn’t stop, which made it, of course, keep me pulled in until the very last page. I was actually sad when I tried to turn the page […]

Review: Finders Keepers by Nicole Williams

Check out my review of Lost & Found (Lost & Found #1) Check out my review of Near & Far (Lost & Found #2) Favorite Quote(s): “‘Yeah, yeah, too bad for him because you’re here with me now, and I’m not letting go.’ Drawing her back to me, I lowered my mouth just outside of her ear. ‘Finders keepers.’” Favorite Character: Garth. He’s a lot more than what meets the eye, and I was really able to sympathize with him in this novel. First Line: “Trying to ignore her was like trying to ignore a bull charging me.” My Musings: I have been pining for this novel since before the day that this was actually announced as a book. I was wishing and hoping and yearning for a novel about our favorite dark and handsome cowboy. So when I missed the tour for this one, I was super bummed. But luckily, Nicole Williams is amazing and she sent me a review copy of it anyways! And you know what I did? Dove right into it. Finders Keepers is about our favorite antihero from the companion novels of this series, Lost & Found and Near & Far. It’s about him letting go on his inhibitions and learning to love, which some of us never thought that he was capable of. I’m not going to talk about the love interest right this moment, and […]

Review: Redesigned by Denise Grover Swank

Check out my review of After Math (Off the Subject #1) Favorite Quote(s): “‘Are you calling me the Antichrist?’ I laugh again. ‘I wouldn’t go that far.’ ‘Then maybe you could have a chat with some of my Algebra 101 students and convince them otherwise.’ He laughs. ‘But then again, maybe it’s better if they have the fear of God in them.’ ‘Or in this case, I think you mean the fear of Satan.’” “He leans over, and his lips hover over mine. ‘Abstinence makes the heart grow fonder.’ I laugh. ‘That is not how that platitude goes.’” “His lips press in mock annoyance. ‘I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I’m a nerdy math guy. We’re not hip to the lingo.’” Favorite Character: Reed. I’m all for a hot, nerdy math guy! First Line: “I push damp hair off my forehead, irritated with the heat.” My Musings: I was recently a part of this release day launch, along with previously having participated in the release day launch of this book’s companion novel, After Math (review here). I was ecstatic when Inkslinger Pr granted me a review copy of this novel. Seeing as I loved After Math so much, I was excited to see what else Swank could cook up. And let me say; this novel was a perfect literary feast for me. Redesigned follows Caroline, the best friend of After Math s protagonist, Scarlett. Like […]

Review: A Shade of Blood by Bella Forrest

Check out my review of A Shade of Vampire (A Shade of Vampire #1) Favorite Quote(s): “Before he could stop me, I forcefully shoved a piece of my sandwich inside his mouth. Derek sat frozen in his seat, his bright blue eyes staring in shock at me, the toast beginning to get soggy inside his gaping mouth. He looked like he was about to spontaneously combust.” “‘I love you, Sofia,’ I whispered. ‘And I honestly believe that I could never love another woman for the rest of my life. For the first time in the past five hundred years, I am sincerely thankful for my immortality, because without it, I never would’ve found you.’” Favorite Character: Sofia. She’s a tough cookie! First Line: “A cold wind howled as it whipped though the giant redwoods surrounding us.” My Musings: I recently read and reviewed the first novel in this series, A Shade of Vampire, and I absolutely adored it. So when Bella Forrest accepted my review pitch for book two, I was beyond happy. I was so excited to see where Forrest decided to take this story, especially after the cliffhanger of the first novel. In this novel, Sofia and her best friend Ben were offered a once in a life time chance—a chance to leave The Shade. But they soon realize that their lives would never be the same. Both […]

Review: A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

Favorite Quote(s): “At that, I broke down into tears. He was right. Whether I liked it or not, home had become wherever Derek Novak was.” Favorite Character: Sofia. She was spunky and brave! First Line: “I never once imagined that my life would play out the way that it did.” My Musings: Now I’m going to share with you all something that is very shallow of me: I’ve been putting off this novel because I didn’t care for the cover. I know, I’m a shallow, shallow person. But I am so glad that I decided to give this novel a chance—despite the mediocre cover (in my opinion), the novel was anything but. This novel follows Sofia as she is kidnapped from her vacation on the beach and taken as a slave in a vampire coven on an island. Sofia soon learns that the best way to stay safe, or as safe as you can be on an island full of vampires, is to stay in the good graces of Derek Novak, legend Prince of the Blood Shade coven. Sofia soon learns, however, that even Derek can’t protect her from the darkness that resides on the island. “The moment our eyes met, he looked away, almost as if he were embarrassed over something. It was actually…cute—a word I never thought I’d use to describe Derek Novak.” I liked Sofia’s character. She […]

Review: Before You Go by Clare James

Favorite Quote(s): “‘But sometimes you need someone or something. Don’t miss out on that because you’re too busy focusing on where you’re going. Sometimes all we have is right here, right now.’” “‘With books, it’s not a matter of being appropriate,’ he continues. ‘It’s a matter of what speaks to you and if you can learn something, be entertained, lose yourself for a while, find comfort, get mad—’” Favorite Character: Noah. Le sigh. First Line: “Most people think he broke me the night it happened.” My Musings: The reason that this book caught my eye was the amazing cover. Seriously, I love it. So I was ecstatic when Clare James gifted me a copy to review! Unfortunately, life caught up with me, and I’ve just now had the time to read this novel. But oh my, I wish that I was able to get to it sooner! This novel follows the life of Tabby, as she institutes operation Take back that Night. So she’s decided that in order to heal, she has to have a one night stand. She has to be in control. And then she meets Noah Adler. After Noah wiggles his way into her life and her heart, Tabby realizes that it’s okay to let someone take control every once in a while. I absolutely loved Tabby’s character. Her need for control is something that is familiar […]
