Mini-Review: This Christmas by Katlyn Duncan

Check out my review of This Summer (This Summer #1) This Christmas was a novella that takes place after This Summer. I enjoyed This Summer so I was curious to read This Christmas. This novel picks up the Christmas after This Summer, so Hadley and Will have been dating for a little while. They’re off to spend Christmas in a rustic cabin. I thought that This Christmas was an incredibly cute winter read. It wasn’t, however, what I would consider fluffy. There was a bit of drama and Will was acting weird for a while, which of course, was concerning for their still-new relationship. I enjoyed how festive Hadley was. It was absolutely adorable. Will was a bit broody for the holidays, but all turned out well. It was a nice little peak back at the couple of This Summer that got me in the holiday spirit got me excited for whatever Katlyn Duncan writes next. About Katlyn Duncan Katlyn Duncan was born and raised in a small town in western Massachusetts. Her overactive imagination involved invisible friends, wanting to be a Disney Princess and making up her own stories. Her bibliophile mom always encouraged her love of reading and that stayed with her since. Even though she works full time in the medical field Katlyn has always made time for books, whether she is reading or writing them. Katlyn […]

Hadley and her best friend Lily want to have a great summer before college, Hadley is finally free from a relationship even though her ex still wants her. But nothing will get in the way of the summer to remember. That is, until Will Carson appears back in town. Will, Hadley’s ex-best friend and crush. The Will that left two years prior with no goodbyes. So when Hadley and Will get paired as co-counselors at camp, drama ensues. This Summer kept me interested and reading. I loved uncovering the secrets that Will was hiding and I enjoyed seeing Hadley flounder with his reappearance. There was some deep things going on with Will that I wasn’t expecting going into the novel but I thought it brought on a nice touch. The novel had me constantly cracking up with the events that took place in the novel. It also had me feeling sad at points as well. The pacing was great and I was engaged from the beginning until the end of the novel. Hadley wanted a summer to remember and that is definitely what she got. Hadley was one of those characters who were easy to […]

Review: Dark Summer Dreams by Danube Adele

Check out my review of Quicksilver Dreams (Dreamwalkers #1) “I felt him second guessing himself as he turned back around, and I actually had a moment when I wanted to giggle. Served him right. He was a great big brute, and he deserved every bit of discomfort I could level at him.” I enjoyed the first novel, Quicksilver Dreams, and I wanted to see what happened with the plot line that runs through the series. Dark Summer Dreams follows Ryder’s sister, Shandria, instead of him. That’s the first thing that shocked me. Honestly, after finishing the first novel, I never expected the second book just to jump to completely different characters. So I went into this novel a bit apprehensively, but still wanting to find out what happened with the on-going plot. Dark Summer Dreams had a slow start. And by slow, I mean really slow. It took me days to get through the first quarter of the novel. It was all building up to the interesting parts, I guess, but it was pretty difficult for me to get through. This in itself was a shock because the previous novel started rolling from the beginning. About half-way through, things started picking up. Then it was easier to stay with and the plot actually went pretty well. There were things that you could predict would happen so I wasn’t really surprised […]

Review: Quicksilver Dreams by Danube Adele

“Life is so weird. You just never know what the next day is going to bring.” “He really and truly needed me. Me. This big, powerful warrior wanted me.” Okay honestly? Because it’s an alien book. You don’t get too many of those now-a-days, and it just sounded interesting. It had secret agents and aliens. What more can you ask for? Quicksilver Dreams was filled to the brim with action and danger. Lots of things went on in this novel, ranging from evil aliens trying to kill Taylor, from Taylor and Ryder fighting their attraction, to Ryder being iffy about Taylor because he thinks she’s a traitor. There was definitely never a dull moment in this novel. “His light eyes bore into mine. I could see the puffiness of his lip, as well as a dried fleck of blood. I’d done that? For a moment I stared at the evidence, in awe of myself. I truly was a badass. Then I confused myself because I also wanted to kiss it better. I never said I was consistent.” Taylor was our female protagonist, an almost-adult making her way in life in Hollywood. She’s escaped and come from nothing, and she does anything and everything she needs to to make sure she’s independent. She really took the things that were thrown at her in this novel well, proving how tough-minded she was. […]
