Review: Evertrue by Brodi Ashton

I’m going to be blunt right now. I didn’t think I was going to finish Evertrue. The story just took a turn I really didn’t like, and I thought it was sort of a cop out to make a villainous character less of a villain. From the beginning of the series I pined for Cole and Nikki to end up together, even though I think I knew deep down that it wouldn’t work. It was wayyy too dysfunctional to be a justified option for the two characters. But still, I wanted it. Not that I disliked Nikki’s boyfriend, I didn’t. Jack was cool and his love for Nikki was beautiful. (But a tad boring for my tastes). I’ve just got this eternal love for the bad seeds I guess. The beginning picked up where we left off in Everbound and I liked that. Some books that end on cliffhangers do the whole, Six Months Later or whatever and it’s annoying. The rest of the story is quite the journey for all of the characters. It’s a race for Nikki and Jack to find Nik’s heart, stolen by Cole because he wants her for himself, to rule the Everneath beside him. (I’d do it. Pick me. Please. *waves hands*). Each of the characters face impossible tasks and are forced to overcome them and trust one another. This is the installment that really brings the whole […]

Review: Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

“Astraia might not be brave, but she wanted me to live. And here I was, wishing her dead in my place. If one of us had to die, it ought to be the one with poison in her heart.” I happen to love the movie The Beauty and the Beast, and I’ve never read a retelling of the story, so I was intrigued. “One of us had to die. That was the bargain Father had struck, and it was not her fault that he had picked her to be the one who lived, but every time she smiled, I still thought: She smiles because she is safe. She is safe because I am going to die.” This novel was definitely engaging and interesting. It followed Nyx as she was set to be married to Ignifex, the Gentle Lord who rules their kingdom. She’s been trained to kill him since her birth and goes into the castle where he resides knowing that she will not live through it, but willing to sacrifice her life for the good of her kingdom. Little did she know, there was more to the Gentle Lord and his castle than she had anticipated, and she finds herself with feelings for both the Gentle Lord and his servant, Shadow. This novel started out with a bang and got right in with the good stuff. There weren’t many […]

Blog Tour: The Promise of Amazing by Robin Constantine

Favorite Quote(s):  “While chewing he kept his eyes on me, maybe wondering why I wasn’t cheering along with the rest of them. I should have left, but there was something about the way he oozed confidence while acting so asinine that fascinated me. He was a complete tool, but I bet no one ever accused him of being too quiet.” Favorite Character: Wren. I could really relate to her on a more personal level. First Line: “‘None of you are going to Harvard.’” My Musings: I have been wanting to read this novel since its cover was revealed. Covers this pretty usually enclose fantastically written novels. That was so in this case. “Being with Wren meant something to me. I wanted to be serious. Whatever serious meant. Was this what it felt like to fall in love with someone? Was it too soon to know? And after all I’d done—could we ever have a normal relationship?” The Promise of Amazing was better than I thought it was going to be. Going in, I thought that it would be the typically young adult contemporary romance with a slightly dull plot but a swoony romance. In part, I was right: this novel had a sweeter than honey romance that had me wishing that I had my very own Grayson Barrett. However, there was a strong plot as well. Grayson struggled with something over the […]
