Review: Heartbitten by Aubrey Rose

Heartbitten sounded like a promising novel based on the synopsis, so I couldn’t wait to read it! Heartbitten tells the story of vampire Robb and human Liz. Robb was turned almost 400 years ago, and has been searching for a cure to vampirism in a college lab. Liz is one of the new graduates working in that lab, trying to find the cure to blood cancer, which took her sister’s life many years ago. The tension between the two is thick, but Robb can’t risk her finding out about what he is. Unfortunately, Heartbitten did not live up to my expectations. The plot, in my opinion, was strange. When we started getting to what I thought was the climax of the story, with an enermy and the promise of possible danger, the novel ended without actually climaxing. It was then that I realized that that was not the actual climax. In reality, the whole plot was built around the romance. That would be fine, but it didn’t feel as if there was a plot within the romance. I mean sure, you have her find out and freak out, but that’s not really climax material. It really disappointed me that there wasn’t a viable plot in this novel.  “‘Last time was…I misunderstood. I thought you knew. I’m so sorry.’ ‘It’s okay.’ ‘It’s not!’ Robb cried out, his voice strained. Then, more […]

Blog Tour: Anomaly by K.A. Tucker

Check out my review of Anathema (Casual Enchantment #1) Check out my review of Asylum (Casual Enchantment #2) Check out my review of Allegiance (Casual Enchantment #3) I have read and adored the previous novels in this series and I couldn’t wait to see how K.A. Tucker finished off the series. I’ve been waiting for this book for a while! This novel was definitely the most eventful and thrilling of the series. Everything in this novel comes down to a boil–the fight with the Fates, the fight with Viggo, and the fight against the sorceresses. There’s destruction, hard decisions, betrayals, lies, deceit, kidnapping–basically everything under the sun. But oddly, it wasn’t overwhelming. Usually, when an author smushes this much action into a single novel, it seems rushed and confusing–not such the case with this novel. Everything flowed, and for the most part, everything that happened was understandable. The only part that I wished I would have known more about was the part with the Fates. That, I’ll have to admit, could have been expanded on a bit more. Evangeline finally matures in this novel. Not that she was immature, it’s just that she grows out of her naive mindset. She finds out that not everyone is to be trusted, and that you can only depend on certain people to do you right. She also spends this novel adjusting to her […]

Check out my review of Shade of Vampire (Shade of Vampire #1) Check out my review of Shade of Blood (Shade of Vampire #2) Check out my review of A Castle of Sand (Shade of Vampire #3) Check out my review of A Shadow of Light (Shade of Vampire #4) Favorite Quote(s): “‘You on the other hand…there’s something about you, Derek Novak…that makes it easy for me to forgive and forget your numerous offenses against me. What is it about you?’ I raised a brow at her, unable to keep the grin from forming on my lips. ‘I think it’s the charm. You can’t resist my charm.’” Favorite Character: Sofia. First Line: “The moment I opened my eyes and woke up to the dim candle light of my bedroom, I couldn’t help but groan.” My Musings: First, I want to start off saying that Bella Forrest is both a phenomenal writer and person. She has created a unique world of vampires with this series, unlike anything that I’ve read before. So much happens in A Blaze of Sun! There’s talk of a cure, the return of a new enemy, an attack…and maybe something a little sweeter. This books was a fast-tracked roller coaster that just didn’t stop, which made it, of course, keep me pulled in until the very last page. I was actually sad when I tried to turn the page […]

Check out my review of A Shade of Vampire (Shade of Vampire #1) Check out my review of A Shade of Blood (Shade of Vampire #2) Check out my review of A Castle of Sand (Shade of Vampire #3) Favorite Quote(s): “‘You really need not fear, Sir.’ lily nodded. ‘Derek would never intentionally harm Sofia. He loses himself sometimes when he blacks out, but there’s only one person who can reel him back to his senses, and that’s your daughter. No one else is capable of doing that ti him.’ “‘King Derek needs Queen Sofia.’ Madeline had a sweet smile on her face as she spoke the words. She nodded as she said them, her eyes twinkling.” Favorite Character: Derek. First Line: “‘I am going to kill him!’” My Musings: Wow. Just wow. So I am writing this review not five minutes after reading the last line of this novel. Alright, so I’ve been a horrible person–I’ve been trying to get this novel read and reviewed since three days before the release date, but life caught up with school starting, and now there’s drama going on with my sport.  But I really wish I could have gotten to this one earlier. This is the first book in a few months that I’ve actually sat down and read in one 4 hour sitting. And boy did I get my fill of awesomeness! I […]

Review: A Castle of Sand by Bella Forrest

Check out my review of A Shade of Vampire (A Shade of Vampire #1) Check out my review of A Shade of Blood (A Shade of Vampire #2) Favorite Quote(s): “Let the sandcastle collapse. In its place, I will build a fortress–one that the waves of nature and time could never destroy.” Favorite Character: Sofia. First Line: “My blood was pounding within me.” My Musings: Wow! I’ll have to say that these novels keep getting better and better! Bella is weaving an incredible tale that keeps pulling me in and begging for more. A Castle of Sand leaves off where A Shade of Blood did. I can say that this is the most action packed installment thus far. There was lots going on and lots to keep up with. That was added to with more points of view. I feel like the alternating points of view gave the novel a sense of wholeness and made all of the action less confusing. The story was plotted out with what seems like great intricacy, everything weaving together perfectly. I really enjoyed the characters of Derek and Sofia in this novel. In this novel, like those past, Sofia continues to be a head strong leader. Even more so in this novel. However, we do get to experience some of her insecurities, which really humanize a her. But she doesn’t let them get her too down, and still […]

Review: Black Dawn by Rachel Caine

Favorite Quote(s): “She swallowed. ‘Don’t talk with your mouth full.’ He did exactly what any boy—no, man—his age would do: he showed her a mouthful of mashed croissant, which was gross, then drank more coffee and showed her again. Gone.” Favorite Character: Shane. I loved seeing him open and vulnerable. First Line: “It would have been better if he’d screamed.” My Musings: Alas I am back again to tell you all about Black Dawn, the twelfth novel in the Morganville Vampire series. I am proud to say that I have only two more novels until I am caught up with the publication dates! But anyways. In this novel, we pick right back up with Claire and her friends’ struggle against the draug, the predator of the vampires. And when you have the vampires in the state that they were in, what with their ‘queen’ infected by the master draug’s bite, well, it only makes since to assume that things wouldn’t turn out well. But if you’ve read any book in this series, you’d know that Claire and her gang are some tough cookies, and they’ll fight for what they believe in. And although they had to overcome a lot of obstacles, they were successful in the end…well, sort of. I really never know what to say when I talk about the characters. I feel like I’m being repetitive in every review, because, well, the […]

Review: Last Breath by Rachel Caine

Favorite Quote(s): “He swallowed, and shifted his weight a little uneasily, and then said, very quietly, his lips almost touching hers, ‘Promise me you’ll marry me. Not now. Someday. Because I need to know.’” “’You like being a girl—that’s good. I like being a guy—that’s also good.’ ‘Next you’ll be all me, Tarzan, you, Jane!’ ‘I’ve seen you stick arrows in vampires. Not too damn likely I’d be thumping my chest and trying to tell you I wear the loincloth around here.’” Favorite Character: Shane. He’s improving. First Line: “Shane’s lips felt like velvet against the nape of her neck, and Claire shivered in delight as his breath warmed the skin there.” My Musings: I’ve been reading this series for a while now—and it has been a long journey! I mean, fifteen books and counting? It’s crazy. But I’m almost to Fall of Night, and I hope to be there soon so I can just follow along as they come out. But anyways. Last Breath was another fantastic installment in the Morganville Vampires series. It was unique and full of unexpected twists and turns. Morganville is usually safe for the vampires—not so much the humans. So when vampires start going missing, never to be seen again, tensions begin running high in the college town of Morganville. Amelie is hatching plans that could end Morganville forever, and Claire just doesn’t know […]

Mini-Review: Bite Club by Rachel Caine

Favorite Quote(s): “’You take me the most interesting places,’ Eve was saying to Michael when she rejoined them. ‘Murder scenes, interrogations…’” “’It’s been the toughest week of my life, not touching you. Not talking to you. Waiting to see what you were going to do.’ He kissed her again, a warm, damp touch of lips, exquisitely controlled. ‘But it doesn’t matter whether you stay or go. I’ll still need you. So if you want to go off to Boston, Ill wait. Right here, whenever you need me.’” Favorite Character: Claire. She doesn’t give up. First Line: “Looking back on it later, Claire thought she should have known trouble was coming.” My Musings: I can proudly say that I am back to tackle the rest of the Morganville Vampires series. I have reviewed all but the ninth one, which I read while taking a blogging break. And now I’m back to tell you all about the tenth installment in the fantastic Morganville saga. This installment was more focused around Shane than anything else. Our favorite book boy has gotten himself into some bad stuff. And by bad, I mean vampire bad. And as a result, people get pushed away, people get hurt—both emotionally and physically—and it’s just a whole bunch of violence and heartbreak. You see, there’s a new fad out there in Morganville. Fighting. Humans against vampires in particular. And […]

Review: A Shade of Blood by Bella Forrest

Check out my review of A Shade of Vampire (A Shade of Vampire #1) Favorite Quote(s): “Before he could stop me, I forcefully shoved a piece of my sandwich inside his mouth. Derek sat frozen in his seat, his bright blue eyes staring in shock at me, the toast beginning to get soggy inside his gaping mouth. He looked like he was about to spontaneously combust.” “‘I love you, Sofia,’ I whispered. ‘And I honestly believe that I could never love another woman for the rest of my life. For the first time in the past five hundred years, I am sincerely thankful for my immortality, because without it, I never would’ve found you.’” Favorite Character: Sofia. She’s a tough cookie! First Line: “A cold wind howled as it whipped though the giant redwoods surrounding us.” My Musings: I recently read and reviewed the first novel in this series, A Shade of Vampire, and I absolutely adored it. So when Bella Forrest accepted my review pitch for book two, I was beyond happy. I was so excited to see where Forrest decided to take this story, especially after the cliffhanger of the first novel. In this novel, Sofia and her best friend Ben were offered a once in a life time chance—a chance to leave The Shade. But they soon realize that their lives would never be the same. Both […]

Review: A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

Favorite Quote(s): “At that, I broke down into tears. He was right. Whether I liked it or not, home had become wherever Derek Novak was.” Favorite Character: Sofia. She was spunky and brave! First Line: “I never once imagined that my life would play out the way that it did.” My Musings: Now I’m going to share with you all something that is very shallow of me: I’ve been putting off this novel because I didn’t care for the cover. I know, I’m a shallow, shallow person. But I am so glad that I decided to give this novel a chance—despite the mediocre cover (in my opinion), the novel was anything but. This novel follows Sofia as she is kidnapped from her vacation on the beach and taken as a slave in a vampire coven on an island. Sofia soon learns that the best way to stay safe, or as safe as you can be on an island full of vampires, is to stay in the good graces of Derek Novak, legend Prince of the Blood Shade coven. Sofia soon learns, however, that even Derek can’t protect her from the darkness that resides on the island. “The moment our eyes met, he looked away, almost as if he were embarrassed over something. It was actually…cute—a word I never thought I’d use to describe Derek Novak.” I liked Sofia’s character. She […]
