Review: The Boys Next Door by Rosalie Lario

For some reason, I was drawn to this plot. I has the premise of two guys “sharing” a girl and usually that would immediately repel me, but I had been reading C.L. Stone’s Ghostbird and Scarab Beetle series, which also have that type of premise, so I figured that I would give it a try. Unfortunately, I did not like The Boys Next Door nearly as much as C.L. Stone’s novels. While C.L. Stone’s reverse polygamy premise feels actually somewhat natural an genuine, this felt forced. For the majority of the novel, it was the girl liking both neighbors and quasi-dating one and making out with the other. At the end, they decided to “share” her in a night of passion. I just did not enjoy it. It felt very on the surface and I felt like there was no genuine feelings other than lust between the characters, which made it just a threesome, which I did not enjoy reading at all. Moreover, the main character, Lexi, felt really flat over the course of the novel. She felt a bit airheaded for some reason in which I cannot discern. And the two boys Ben and Matt, best friends and neighbors, didn’t really react initially in a way that would later lead me to believe that they would propose sharing her.
