Review: Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Review: Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Hunter. Hunter. HUNTER. Man oh man Jennifer knows how to write male characters that you know you should find attractive, but definitely do. Hell, she made ALIENS hot. Okay? Aliens. Um… HOW? Now I know I gave Obsession a five star rating, but let me be clear; the plot was so cliche it was tacky. Girl has normal life, girl gets thrown into supernatural world where she meets hot guy *in swaggers Hunter* who is forced to protect her, girl falls for boy even though she shouldn’t, boy eventually falls for girl and becomes a better man, they live (relatively) happily ever after after a bunch of crazy sh*t goes down. It was entertaining, cliche as it was. But it was Jennifer L. Armentrout, so… As Hazel Grace Lancaster would say to her favourite author, “Frankly, I’d read your grocery lists.” JLA is my go-to gal for entertaining, amazing love stories, and will continue to be until I’ve read every single word she’s written. Probably even after that. #reread The romance was… hot. From the very beginning, the moment Hunter and Serena met, he made his intentions crystal clear. Which I’m still debating if I liked or not. I mean it’s good to know what you want and to go after what you want, but he… he was… well, Hunter. He was forward, to the point, and all consuming. Their romance was […]

Review: Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Review: Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout

She’s done it again, ladies and gents. Jennifer L. Armentrout has knocked my socks off. Wicked, a self-published first installment in a new series, was absolutely phenomenal. The characters were kick-ass and the story had a great balance of humor, romance, and ass-kicking good times.   Set in New Orleans, Wicked had me hooked. Maybe it’s my love for the setting (The Originals, hellooo.), but it just made the whole story that much more appealing to me. JLA has never written something that I didn’t enjoy, she knows how to tell a gripping, amazing story. As the story carried through I found myself super excited that it wasn’t a stand a lone novel, especially because I really want to explore the world of The Order and maybe hear some more stories from other characters. Ren and Ivy were interesting characters who I fell for and found myself easily connecting with, and Ivy’s journey – finding out what she really wanted and where she fit within The Order was a story I found myself loving from beginning to end. She wanted more from her life than to just be tied to The Order and so she applied for College and attended while still keeping up with her duties to The Order which I couldn’t help but admire. As this giant battle grew closer and closer and things were revealed (and I guessed the […]

Review: Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Being that this is a Jen Armentrout book, my expectations going in were high. Her writing has never let me down and continues not to. Don’t Look Back grabbed my attention from the start and held on tight until it was over. However, this is definitely my least favourite JLA book. Maybe it was the genre, or the absence of Daemon or Jax, but it is what it is. Samantha – The main character, the girl who lost everything but got a chance at a new life. She goes through a lot throughout the story and I admire her strength. I wouldn’t ever want to be in her shoes (even though she owns really nice shoes), but hey, I’d totally take Carson for a spin. Scott – The brother, from the start I had mixed opinions about him. I just had this feeling that he knew way more than he was letting on. He was a bit too shady for my comfort, but I was happy to be wrong about him. Scott was actually a cool guy, and a really supportive brother. Loved him. Carson – The Book Boyfriend. JLA and her swoon-worthy boys, man oh man. Carson and Sam were friends a long time ago and fell apart when she fell into popularity. Not until after the accident did they become close again, and I shipped it. Really hard. […]

Blog Tour Review: Stay With Me by J. Lynn

Check out my review of Wait for You (Wait for You #1) I have adored every single on of JLA’s novels so of course when the opportunity was given to me to be a part of this blog tour raised, I jumped on it! Stay with Me focuses on Calla, a character that I hadn’t seen much as I have yet to read Be with Me. Calla’s story was definitely drama filled. As in, drugs, hit men, and possible death and destruction. It was a totally different type of drama than Avery and Cam’s story but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It never got boring and the events kept me on my toes. Calla was definitely served a tough hand in this novel but never once did she come off as weak. She was a very strong character, in my opinion, and she was very brave in dealing with the things that were thrown her way. Like Avery, she had a past. She kept it a secret from her friends for a bit, but even that didn’t deter me from enjoying her character. She was very kind and selfless while also determined and brave. Jax was something a bit different. He wasn’t part of the “Hot Guy Brigade” as Calla put it. In fact, he didn’t go to their college as the majority of this novel was set in Calla’s hometown. […]

Mini-Review: White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentr..

Mini-Review: White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Check out my review of Bitter Sweet Love (The Dark Elements #0.5) “‘You need something,’ he said, and when I stared at him, he added, ‘Your face.’ ‘My face?’ ‘It’s in need of my kisses.’” I absolutely adore anything that Jennifer Armentrout writes and this was no exception. White Hot Kiss is the first in a series that follows Layla, a half-Warden, half-Demon, Roth, a Demon, and Zayne, a Warden. I had been looking forward to this novel since it was announced and it exceeded my expectations. The plot was filled with action and thrills and kept me completely engaged. I loved that the paranormal creature of choice was gargoyles. I had never heard of or read a novel centered around gargoyles. I love that Armentrout took the paranormal genre and made I her own, much like she did with her Lux and Covenant series. “The newcomer stood well over six feet, as tall as any Warden. His hair was dark, the color of obsidian, and it reflected blue in the dim light. Lazy locks slipped over his forehead and curled just below his ears. Brows arched over golden eyes and his cheekbones were broad and high. He was attractive. Very attractive. Mind-bendingly beautiful, actually, but the sardonic twist to his full lips chilled his beauty. The black T-shirt stretched across his chest and flat stomach. A huge tattoo of a […]

Review: Bitter Sweet Love by Jennifer L. Armentrout

“My lips pursed. ‘Is there a reason why you’re here?’ ‘Yes.’ I waited. And then I waited some more. ‘Anytime now.’ Dez’s gaze moved from the top of my head to the tips of my neon-purple toenails. ‘I like what you’re wearing.’ Frowning, I glanced down at myself. I had on a camisole covered by a cardigan and a pair of god-awful sleep shorts Danika had bought me for my birthday. They were covered with teddy bears. Not the best fashion choice. ‘Gets me in the mood for cuddling,’ he murmured lazily.”  “He clamped his arms around my waist as I started to wriggle away. ‘Jas,’ he said, his voice dropping low. ‘You should stop squirming.’ Then he paused. ‘Or not. I’m kind of partial to it, honestly.’ I froze, hands planted on his shoulders. Warmth crept over my cheeks. ‘You’re terrible.’ ‘I’m a lot of things right now.’ He lowered his head to mine and inhaled deeply. ‘I bet you can figure out one or two of those things.’” Bitter Sweet Love is the prequel to The Dark Elements series by Jennifer Armentrout. In this novella, we are introduced to Armentrout’s fictional world of gargoyles as Wardens who protect the human race from evil creatures: demons. And I am just going to apologize right now for the influx of quotes: like all JLA books, this one was just so […]

Release Day Party: Bitter Sweet Love by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Moving lightning fast, Dez shifted and I was suddenly underneath him. His arms were on either side of my head, caging me in. Our bodies didn’t touch, but I felt him to the tips of my toes anyway. The teasing grin disappeared when I dragged in a deep breath and my chest brushed his. Everything changed in an instant. The playful mood faded, replaced by primal heaviness. Our gazes collided and locked. Neither of us moved. His closeness sent a series of shivers skittering across my skin and made it hard to take slow, even breaths. My body tensed when his gaze dropped to my mouth. He tilted his head to the side. “I… I honestly have no idea what we were talking about.” “Good. Neither do I.” He shifted his weight onto one arm, bring him closer. “Have you enjoyed your trip so far?” “Yes.” I felt as if I couldn’t get enough air into my lungs. “Good.” He lowered his head. His breath was minty as it moved across my cheek and then my lips. “I’m glad.” I wasn’t really following the conversation and I wasn’t sure that he was fully aware of what was coming out of his mouth. I searched my hazy brain for something to say and wet my lips. I- The sound that came out of Dez’s chest rumbled through me. A stuttered heartbeat […]

Blog Tour: Sentinel by Jennifer L. Armentrout~Celebrating Deity

Favorite Quote(s): “Aiden had slipped under my skin, wrapped himself around my heart and embedded himself into my bones.” “That simple act stole my breath, my heart. But even as he pulled away, I realized that he couldn’t steal something he already had.” Favorite Character: Alex again! She’s growing into herself and her role in being Apollyon, and I’m loving watching her do it! First Line: “Red silk clung to my hips, twisting into a tight bodice that accentuated my curves.” My Musings: Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Words cannot describe Armentrout’s writing; if you’ve ever read any of her books, then you know. If you have not: shame on you. Go get one of her books right now. If any of you have only read the Lux series, go out and get the first novel of the Covenant series, Half Blood, right now. Armentrout has done it again. She has completely surpassed my expectations. this novel was thrilling, suspenseful, and heart jerking. Unexpected events and twists and turns in the plot kept me on my toes. It was a book that I did not want to put down. The writing was detailed and impeccable. The characters were inexplicable. Everything was just amazing. In this third novel of the series, Alex is coming more into her Apollyon nature: that is, until she finds out that someone could have been lying to her […]

Review: Wait For You by J. Lynn

Favorite Quote(s): The sheer control it took to not quote the whole book…the pages are almost all yellow on my kindle app! “He popped his chin on his first, and I focused on my plate. The bastard looked too adorable and cute. ‘So, Avery Morangsten, I’m all yours.” “‘Yeah, I normally have class right now,’ he said, eyes a startling azure in the sun. ‘But I wanted to see you.’” “Everything was okay. Maybe not perfect, but life wasn’t meant to be perfect. It was messy and sometimes a disaster, but there was beauty in the messiness and there could be peace in the disaster.” Favorite Character: Cam. He’s a cutie pie! First Line: “There were two things in life that scared the ever-loving crap out of me.” My Musings: To be honest, the reason that I picked up this novel was because it was written by Jennifer Armentrout. Shallow, I know, but I have loved every single one of the books she has written, and therefore, she was moved to my ‘automatically buy’ list. And so on an early morning in first period at school when I got the email that this book had released early, I one-clicked it. In the middle of class. But then my life decided to get busy, and I haven’t been able to fit in this book until now. But I am oh-so-glad that […]
