The lady’s piercing green eyes rested on me, sending a chill down my back. My father followed her gaze. “Rylie, do you know this woman?” Dad asked. “No.” I shook my head slowly. “I’ve never seen her before.” “Rylie, maybe you should go to your room,” Dad suggested, his gaze demanding I do as he said. “No. If this has something to do with me, I want to hear it.” I crossed my arms and sank against the back of the couch. Mom and Dad exchanged a worried glance, but turned back to the lady on the couch. “Please, go on.” […]

Favorite Quote(s): “I will love you for all of eternity.” Favorite Character: Stormy, because out of all of the characters, she seemed the easiest to relate to. The others had a fake air that surrounded their personas throughout the book. First Line: “I was waiting for the other combat boot to drop.” My Musings: Wow…I am quite shocked. I read the previous books in this series a while ago, and just recently picked up the final novel from the library. Let me say, my opinions on good writing have quite obviously changed. How I had gotten through the rest of the series before this is a mystery. There were a lot of things that struck me as wrong as I read this novel. The beginning was listy, the narration was increasingly simplistic, it was totally predictable, and the language was choppy. I honestly couldn’t get myself immersed in the story. Raven’s character was overly obsessed on becoming a vampire. It was all that she though of. When would he turn me? Why won’t he turn me? I felt like the issue was addressed at least once on every page. Raven’s character, unfortunately, stuck me as static and shallow. Alexander’s character was slightly disappointing too. The only thing we see of him is this vulnerable artistic type–one that apparently doesn’t have many flaws. The world that Schreiber create was just too unrealistic for me. It was so unbelievably […]

Check out my review of First Frost (Mythos Academy #0.5) Favorite Quote(s): “‘Oh just tell the boy you bloody love him and be done with it,’ Vic growled. ‘This lovey-dovey stuff gives me heartburn.’” Favorite Character: Vic. His humor was extremely well welcomed in serious times, and his belief in Gwen is very inspiring. First Line: “‘If you guys don’t stop making out, I’m going to be sick.’” My Musings: Wow. I started this book yesterday, and putting it down to go to school was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Jennifer Estep has done it again. She wove together an intricate plot, complete with stellar characters and infallible action. The novel follows Gwen Frost as she evolves into become the Champion that Nike has chosen her to believe. She does this with the help of her friends: Daphne, Carson, and the ever swoon-worthy Logan Quinn. For starters, the book started off action packed. For some reason, that makes my views of a book that much better: who wants to start off reading boring stuff? Estep’s action was amplified by her writing: it was descriptive and realistic, nothing like the frou-frou totally out of this world stuff. Although the novel is based off of mythology and magic, it is done so in a believable way. The writing was totally captivating. I really enjoyed Estep’s characters once again: they are, honestly, normal day […]
Check out my review of Nightshade (Nightshade #1) Favorite Quote(s): “‘What are you even doing here?’ I barred my fangs at Silas. ‘Aren’t you just a paper pusher? ‘That’s my girl.’ Connor smiled.” “‘Yeah, she is great. I spent the whole week with her.’ ‘Doing what?’ I asked, catching a growl before it left my throat. ‘Aw, you’re cute when you’re jealous.’” Favorite Character: Calla. It’s interesting to see Calla’s changing personality, and I admire her strong will and leadership. First Line: “I couldn’t shut out the screams.” My Musings: I’m writing this review super duper fast because I can’t wait to start the next book! Cremer has once again created an in-captivating world. The writing was impeccable, as always, still able to transport you into Calla’s world. The plot kept me on my toes, we met some new characters, tough decisions were made, and unlikely alliances were formed. We’ll start with the plot. Oh. My. Freaking. Gosh. So many unforeseen events! It’s like, you’re positive that something is going to happen…then it doesn’t. There were a lot of looks of disbelief as I read this book. However, there, true to form, were no dull moments–only ones that kept me wanting more! Now the characters. We were introduced to a bunch of new characters. I’d have to say that my favorite newbie would be Connor. Who doesn’t love a sense of humor when you’re in a deathly situation? But […]

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. “‘Are you hurt?’ he asked, eyesm oving over her body. He looked away, blushing when he realized how much flesh her torn dress revealed. ‘No.’ she whispered, still watching him. ‘Who are you?’ ‘Ethan,’ he said, clearing his throat while trying to find a safe place for his eyes. ‘I’m here to help you.’ She drew in a sharp breath. ‘You’re a Searcher.’” Wolfsbane, Andrea Cremer
