Blog Tour Review: Part-Time Princess by Pamela DuMond

The premise seemed like it would definitely be an interesting read! I can definitely say that this novel was unlike anything that I’ve ever read before. It had an interesting premise, that of a poor girl from Chicago being hired to impersonate a princess of a foreign country. This wasn’t the best story that I’ve read–there was some lagging in the plot at times and the pacing was a bit slow at points and really fast at others. The thing that kept me reading was the humor. The humor that was in this novel was definitely the highlight of the story. The plot wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t anything stellar for me, personally. Lucy was the girl that was chosen to impersonate Lady Elizabeth while the real Elizabeth straightened up some personal affairs in the states. She wasn’t not my favorite female character. Her voice became a bit annoying as the novel went on and I felt like we didn’t but scratch the surface of her character. She was a bit one-dimensional. She was, however, really funny to read. She was always using weird expressions or making jokes. There were, you could say, two main male characters. Prince Cristoph and Prince Nick. Like Lucy, I felt like we didn’t but scratch the surface of their characters. Prince Cristoph was a shallow and fake character but I felt like he was […]

Blog Tour Review: Stay With Me by J. Lynn

Check out my review of Wait for You (Wait for You #1) I have adored every single on of JLA’s novels so of course when the opportunity was given to me to be a part of this blog tour raised, I jumped on it! Stay with Me focuses on Calla, a character that I hadn’t seen much as I have yet to read Be with Me. Calla’s story was definitely drama filled. As in, drugs, hit men, and possible death and destruction. It was a totally different type of drama than Avery and Cam’s story but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It never got boring and the events kept me on my toes. Calla was definitely served a tough hand in this novel but never once did she come off as weak. She was a very strong character, in my opinion, and she was very brave in dealing with the things that were thrown her way. Like Avery, she had a past. She kept it a secret from her friends for a bit, but even that didn’t deter me from enjoying her character. She was very kind and selfless while also determined and brave. Jax was something a bit different. He wasn’t part of the “Hot Guy Brigade” as Calla put it. In fact, he didn’t go to their college as the majority of this novel was set in Calla’s hometown. […]

Review: Reckless Secrets by Gina Robinson

Check out my review of Reckless Secrets (Reckless #1) Reckless Secrets has even more secrets (Hence, the title!) Reckless Secrets was a lot more predictable than Reckless Longing, which made it less interesting and engaging for me. I wasn’t actively engaged in this one because I knew what would happen. It was really easy to see trends in this novel. In addition to that, it was a lot more repetitive. It even had a ton of phrases that were word for word. The plot was still enjoyable but the writing wasn’t as effective as it was in the previous novel, nor was the plot sequencing. Ellie was much the same in this installment. She is feeling guilt in this novel over keeping a secret from Logan but is too scared that that secret will ruin what they have. I didn’t agree with her on that front and found myself thinking badly of her because of it. You would have thought that she would have learned a lesson about keeping secrets from the events in the first novel but she hadn’t. I’m still waiting on that particular area of character growth from her. Logan was suffering in this novel with his secret being out. He was pretty hot and cold in this novel to me as he dealt with the things he had to deal with. Add in the fact that […]

Blog Tour: Perfect You by Ashelyn Drake

I put the phone down and eat my cereal. Just as I take the last bite, my phone beeps with a message. I grab it, thinking Ash is taking a bathroom break. Got plans for today? It’s not Ash. I don’t recognize the number at all. I text back. Who is this? Guess. Noah? No, he doesn’t have my number. My fingers hover over the keys, not knowing how to respond. Noah: It’s Noah. Why is Noah texting me? Sure we’ve been hanging out, but only at the courts. We’ve never called each other or anything. Meg: How did you get my number?  Noah: I have my ways. How’s your head? I haven’t even thought about it. My late night swim with Ash sort of cured all my ailments. Meg: Better. Noah: Good. Let’s go to the water park. Is he asking me out? He knows I’m with Ash. I can explain being at the tennis courts with Noah since he’s the best player on the guys’ team, but going to a water park? Noah: What, do you have plans already? Yes, I do. Gray and I have to practice, and I promised Ash I would go watch the Football Challenge tonight. Meg: Kind of. Kind of? Why did I text that? What the hell is Noah doing to me? It’s like my brain shuts off when I talk to […]

Blog Tour Excerpt: Finding Mr. Darcy by Erin Butler

Chapter 1 Now The phone rang again and I immediately thought of Janie. My heart popped up through my throat and caught on a breath. She was here though, right next to me. Safe. Her face still red and covered in dried, crusty tears. I fumbled for the cordless. “Liza, it’s me. I’m … ” he hesitated, probably waiting to hear if I would say Who? or maybe, Which one? “I’m outside your house. Meet me downstairs?” “Right now?” I shouted more than I’d meant to. My head pulsed in alarm, and a soft groan escaped Janie’s lips. I took a deep breath. “It’s like, eleven,” I whispered, more calm now. “Yeah, I’m out in my car. I … I need to see you.” Janie murmured and shifted as I got out of bed. I’d have to fight her for a spot when I got back. Or I could just suck it up, grab a quilt out of the closet, and sleep on the floor. Outside, the air chilled right through my flimsy pajamas and pricked my bare skin. I tucked Dad’s oversized U of M sweatshirt I found on the back of the couch around my shivering body. My breath made these little pockets of fog in the air as I tiptoed across the frost-covered lawn to the street. The houses that mirrored mine on all sides stood quiet. […]

Review: Reckless Longing by Gina Robinson

“What had just happened out there? For the first time in nearly three months I felt something besides anger and hurt.I felt something almost magical and romantic for a guy with a black eye, and I was scared.” I’ve been on a contemporary New Adult kick lately and this one fit the bill! Reckless Longing is a book full of secrets. Ellie’s mother had been keeping the secret of her father’s identity for years and Ellie has just now figured it out. So she enrolls at the college that he works at and applies for a student job working under him before she decides whether to tell him or not. But she never expected to meet Logan Walker, who is hiding secrets of his own. Between the two of them the secrets are enough to destroy everything they were both working towards. I liked the fact that this novel was based on so many secrets. It made figuring them out interesting because it kept you looking for clues. It also gave the novel that sense of urgency when a secret was almost revealed. And of course, it gave the novel drama when the secrets started getting out into the world. It was a pretty realistic plot–there wasn’t anything too out there but it was interesting enough to keep me reading. Ellie was trying to find a place where she belonged […]

We can’t tell you enough how excited we are for Alyssa’s newest series, The Dire Wolves Chronicles!!   Amazon ** Barnes and Noble ** iTunes ** GooglePlay ** Kobo A single howl made me stop short. “The wolves!” “Let’s hope they are farther away than they sound.” Gage tightened his hold on my hand and pulled me forward. Three more howls filled the night. “They sound closer.” We picked up the pace, and I chanced a glance behind me. That was a mistake. Several large grey wolves came into view. “Run!” Gage didn’t need to be told twice. He broke into a run without letting go of my hand. I ran as fast as possible over the frozen snow, but we didn’t get far before the wolves started circling around us. “Oh my god.” Could things get any worse? “You have to make a run for it.” Gage’s voice quivered. “They’re going to kill us.” “I’m not leaving you.” I tried to stay strong, and I kept my eyes locked on the wolves. There were five of them. All of them were massive, […]

Review: A Shimmer of Angels by Lisa M. Basso

Review: A Shimmer of Angels by Lisa M. Basso

“I squinted through the darkness, spotting that unmistakably messy-sexy hair beside bright platinum blonde. I heard noises. Were they…? Yep. They were making out next to the trash bin. How, well, trashy.” At the time that I requested this novel I was on an angel-kick and well, this novel is about angels so of course I picked it up! A Shimmer of Angels was a bit typical. I kind of played into the trope of good angels vs. fallen angels that every angel book seems to follow. It had those things that almost every other angel book out there has. This fact made it a bit predictable, even in regards to the romance. Nevertheless, it kept me interested and there were certain things about it that kept me engaged. I found the aspect of Ray being able to see angels and being diagnosed as schizophrenic interesting. It was so interesting that it kept me reading this one and hoping to read the next. Although it had its typical moments, there were times in this novel that made it unique. “I’d been forbidden from seeing the men with wings—angels—had lost so much of my life denying them, but now… now I knew they were real. Or I was intensely more schizophrenic than before. But Cam…his questions, his answers, our entire conversation, I couldn’t have made that up.” The pacing was okay. […]

Mini-Review: Exile by Kevin Emerson

Mini-Review: Exile by Kevin Emerson

I picked up this novel because I love the idea of a musician’s romance. It just a thing of mine. Exile, for me, was too fast paced of a novel. The romance, the plot–everything was just too fast and that messed with the fluidity of the novel. It felt like everything was rushed and cut off. Summer was a shallow character. Everything with her was on the surface. We got no back-story on her, just that she’s obsessed with managing bands. That was literally all she really thought about. Caleb, on the other hand, tried to be a little more dynamic of a character, but still his story just wasn’t developed enough to get a full sense of his character. Their relationship with an okay one. As I mentioned, Summer was obsessed with managing the band and she was having trouble finding the line between band manager and girlfriend. This definitely put strain on their relationship, especially with Caleb’s secret and all. It seemed that Emerson wanted to throw a wrench in the story and he definitely did. It was a plot twist that was totally unexpected but it really didn’t do much to save the novel, plot wise. Again, everything in it was just moving too fast for it to help. And the ending. Gosh darnit the ending. To me, there wasn’t one–it was just an abrupt cut off […]
