Blog Tour Review: Going Down in Flames by Chris Ca..

Blog Tour Review: Going Down in Flames by Chris Cannon

I haven’t yet read a book about dragons so this one caught my interest. The plot of the novel was interesting but unrealistic. Bryn was all nonchalant about this dragon thing. There wasn’t any denial, really. It was just really unrealistic to me. She should have freaked out.  Then she was so nonchalant about death threats she received? Again it struck me as unrealistic. There were definitely lagging points throughout the duration of the novel which made getting through it difficult at times. But I really wanted to find out why the events that were happening were happening so I kept reading. However, this book had one if those abrupt cliffhangers that leave you thinking the book got cut off so if you dislike those then this isn’t the book for you. Bryn was snarky, feisty, and didn’t let anyone bully her. Although she was looked down upon due to her split heritage (hybrid dragon) she didn’t let the taunts and name calling bother her. She was strong. She stood up for herself but she had no real concern for herself. And her emotions were slightly bipolar. It was weird at times because it messed with the flow of events in the novel. Zavien was the forbidden love interest. He was rebellious in a nice way and was kind of bossy. But he cared for Bryn while she didn’t care […]

Just Couldn’t Put It Down Giveaway Hop: Vampires of Manhattan by Melissa De La Cruz

For this hop, I will be giving away an ARC of Vampires of Manhattan by Melissa De La Cruz   The Vampires of Manhattan is “hipster horror”–the memorable characters from her Blue Bloods series are older and cooler than before, trying to build “Millennial” lives in the bustle of Manhattan while battling forces of evil and, of course, each other. Hero of this sexy, paranormal action tale is Oliver Hazard-Perry, former human conduit, and Manhattan’s only human-turned-vampire, now the head of the Blue Bloods Coven. When his all-too-human lover is found murdered on the eve of the coven’s annual Four Hundred Ball–a celebration meant to usher in a new era in vampire society, and to mark the re-unification of the Coven after decades of unrest and decay–Oliver is devastated. Now, not only is he trying to create a new world order for the immortal elite, he’s the prime suspect and is stalked by the newly installed head of the vampire secret police. Because according to the new rules, vampires who take human life can now be executed. Burned. How can an immortal sentenced to die fight back? He has to find the killer–and the answers lie deep in vampire lore. Goodluck! GIVEAWAY RULES! There will be ONE winner. You must be 13 or older. I’ve told you this a hundred times. How can I trust you when you never get my name right?’” I have adored the series thus far and I had to see the conclusion to Julian and Anna’s story. This novel takes place twenty-some years after we last saw Julian and Anna. It is written primarily in a flashback-type style in the form of a diary that Anna kept over the years. Half of the novel was basically Anna’s diary with periodic commentary from Juliet (which I lived for). There was a ton of drama that I wasn’t expecting in this novel. The perfect couple had some pretty big problems but still got their HEA. We were introduced to new characters, new events, new experiences, and tragic surprises. It was a lot to cover for one novel but for some reason it wasn’t as engaging as the other novels. It wasn’t boring by any means but it wasn’t quite as interesting […]

Blog Tour Review: Breaking Away by Juliana Haygert

Blog Tour Review: Breaking Away by Juliana Haygert

Check out my review of Breaking the Reins (The Breaking Series #1) I adored the companion novel, Breaking the Reins, which tells the story of this main character’s brother and girlfriend. So of course I wanted to read all about Leo’s sister! Breaking Fences follows Bea, sister of famous polo players, as she leaves home in California to attend college in Colorado despite her father’s wishes. Here, Bea is eventually labeled with a bad reputation due to her nationality. However, she finds solace in the riding ranch half an hour away where the brooding Garrett works. Attraction builds but Bea is facing extreme bullying and Garrett has secrets of his own, one that could blow everything up. I enjoyed this novel just as much as its companion, even though there weren’t any psychopaths in this one. This one was appealing in its own way. You have the main character facing a ton of crap at her new university where she is incapable of fitting in. You have the boy with burdensome secrets. It was a more emotional novel than Breaking the Reins and it was equally as entertaining.  “When she put it that way, I felt like there were fences—built by me and by everyone in my life—around me. Fences carefully placed to keep me safe or to drive me crazy. Family misunderstandings, insecurities, living alone, fake friendships, stereotypes, and […]

Blog Tour Review: #scandal by Sarah Ockler

Blog Tour Review: #scandal by Sarah Ockler

The premise of this novel is pretty straight-forward. Someone uploads compromising pictures from an after-prom party to the main character, Lucy’s, Facebook, framing her as the perpetrator. Everyone in her school turns against her including her best friend Ellie after she sees pictures of Lucy kissing her ex-boyfriend, Cole. So Lucy sets out on a quest to find out who exactly framed her while avoiding the watchful eye of her principal and avoiding all the negativity that comes from her peers. #scandal was unlike anything that I’ve ever read before. For one, I have never read a novel that social media and networking were such a large part of. This alone made the novel very unique for me. In addition to this, the novel had a mystery vibe to it as Lucy tried to track down the person who stole her phone and uploaded those pictures. And there was a subplot of a social media gossip columnist, Miss Demeanor, and finding out their identity. For the most part, the things that happened in this novel were unexpected. I was able to figure out the Miss Demeanor identity, but the other one? Total shock. Unfortunately, the beginning of this novel was rather dull for me. It took a few chapters to get the ball rolling and the drama flaring but after that point it was steady sailing. Lucy was the main […]

Blog Tour Review: Royally Lost by Angie Stanton

Foreign boy! How could I not? Royally Lost follows Becca and Nikolai as they travel through Europe. Becca, an American, is on a family trip to tour through Europe the summer before she begins at Northwestern University. Nikolai is on the run from this overbearing parents–the king and queen of Mondovia. They meet each other and start to fall, but Nikolai’s guard is after him to bring him home, and Becca’s time in Europe is ending. Will they be separated forever, or will they figure out a way to be together? I immensely enjoyed this novel. It was fun, lighthearted, fluffy, and had just the right amount of action. With Nikolai constantly being on the run, there was an air of urgency, especially when the paparazzi caught on to his whereabouts. Then there was the air of rebellion that Becca started to emit. It was just a really interesting novel. Their travelling to various countries in Europe gave it an adventurous feel and I just couldn’t put the novel down! Becca was the leading lady and she was great. She had always been the good child since her mother died four years prior. However, she began to get tired of the way her father treated her and eventually grew a backbone over the course of the novel. I love when characters do this, and Becca did it with flair. I […]
