Blog Tour: Perfect You by Ashelyn Drake

I put the phone down and eat my cereal. Just as I take the last bite, my phone beeps with a message. I grab it, thinking Ash is taking a bathroom break. Got plans for today? It’s not Ash. I don’t recognize the number at all. I text back. Who is this? Guess. Noah? No, he doesn’t have my number. My fingers hover over the keys, not knowing how to respond. Noah: It’s Noah. Why is Noah texting me? Sure we’ve been hanging out, but only at the courts. We’ve never called each other or anything. Meg: How did you get my number?  Noah: I have my ways. How’s your head? I haven’t even thought about it. My late night swim with Ash sort of cured all my ailments. Meg: Better. Noah: Good. Let’s go to the water park. Is he asking me out? He knows I’m with Ash. I can explain being at the tennis courts with Noah since he’s the best player on the guys’ team, but going to a water park? Noah: What, do you have plans already? Yes, I do. Gray and I have to practice, and I promised Ash I would go watch the Football Challenge tonight. Meg: Kind of. Kind of? Why did I text that? What the hell is Noah doing to me? It’s like my brain shuts off when I talk to […]

Blog Tour Excerpt: Finding Mr. Darcy by Erin Butler

Chapter 1 Now The phone rang again and I immediately thought of Janie. My heart popped up through my throat and caught on a breath. She was here though, right next to me. Safe. Her face still red and covered in dried, crusty tears. I fumbled for the cordless. “Liza, it’s me. I’m … ” he hesitated, probably waiting to hear if I would say Who? or maybe, Which one? “I’m outside your house. Meet me downstairs?” “Right now?” I shouted more than I’d meant to. My head pulsed in alarm, and a soft groan escaped Janie’s lips. I took a deep breath. “It’s like, eleven,” I whispered, more calm now. “Yeah, I’m out in my car. I … I need to see you.” Janie murmured and shifted as I got out of bed. I’d have to fight her for a spot when I got back. Or I could just suck it up, grab a quilt out of the closet, and sleep on the floor. Outside, the air chilled right through my flimsy pajamas and pricked my bare skin. I tucked Dad’s oversized U of M sweatshirt I found on the back of the couch around my shivering body. My breath made these little pockets of fog in the air as I tiptoed across the frost-covered lawn to the street. The houses that mirrored mine on all sides stood quiet. […]

Blog Tour Review: Before He Was Gone by Becky Wicks

Check out my review of Before He Was Famous (Starstruck #1) “Joshua smiles, runs his finger round the rim of the coconut. ‘Some people are summer, and some people are winter,’ he says softly after a moment, but I’m just looking at the ocean now, trying not to fall.’” I absolutely adored book one and I wanted to read Alyssa, Chloe’s best friend’s, story. Before He Was Gone had a plot that I haven’t seen in a book thus far. It centered around a reality TV show, Deserted, where a group has to survive on a deserted island and people get voted off until the last person standing wins the one million dollar prize. I had seen commercials for tv shows like this but it was so interesting to actually read the story of the players. It definitely did not lack excitement and I was glued to the book the entire read. Alyssa was the main character in this novel. Her story doesn’t start too well, with her boyfriend (the drummer in Noah Lockton’s band) breaking things off. Alyssa decides that she needs a change and applies for Deserted. She wasn’t your typical character. She reminded me of Katniss with her strength and determination to win. She was relatable and funny and an overall appealing character to read. Joshua was somewhat of an enigma in this novel. He was mysterious in […]

Blog Tour Review + Excerpt: One Past Midnight by Jessica Shirvington

“Life’s too short. If Ethan taught me anything, that would be it. I want to get on with living mine.” “You said you wanted someone to know you. Maybe I just want to have someone know me too. Without you in this world, the memories of every moment we’ve shared together will be gone. We only exist because others see us. Part of my existence…an important part, only exists because you are here to see it.” I had actually been eyeing this book when it was released in Australia under the title Between the Lives. I love Jessica Shirvington’s stories and this one sounded really interesting. Sabine has two lives: in the town of Wellesley, she’s popular with a perfect boyfriend and perfect friends. In Roxbury, she has a little sister and a best friend named Capri. Every night when the clock strikes midnight Sabine would undergo “the shift” and switch from one life to the next. But one day the rules of the shift change: when she goes from one life to the next, injured in the first and not in the second, she finds a loophole. Which brings her to the conclusion that maybe if she died in one life, she would only have to live the other. This novel was unlike anything that I’ve read before. The premise of a girl stuck between two lives, switching between […]

Release Day Launch Review: His Reverie by Monica Murphy

His Reverie was an interesting contemporary in terms of contemporary romance novels. Nothing went on that had me absolutely shocked in the novel but there was enough going on to where I was not bored. There were a few events that occurred that were predictable. In my opinion, the characters in this novel is what made this book decent, not necessarily the plot. What I was not expecting, though, was the cliffhanger at the end of the novel. So if you aren’t into that type of thing, you may want to wait until the second novel comes out. Reverie lived a sheltered life as the daughter of a televangelist. She was naive in every way possible until she met Nick. She was definitely an innocent character and I found it amusing to read her diary entries with her opinion on what happened in the book. Sometimes she came off as a little too clueless but it was something that I had expected from the beginning of the novel so it was not a big deal for me. Nick just got out of jail after being framed for a murder that he did not commit. Nick was definitely handed a tough life that continued when he got out of jail, but he was a bit whiny about it. He wallowed in self-pity for the duration of the novel. I just felt like […]

Blog Tour Review: This Summer by Katlyn Duncan

Additional buy links: Amazon UK | B&N UK | iTunes | iTunes UK | Kobo | Google Play | Mills & Boon This Summer was definitely a novel that gave me my contemporary drama fill. Hadley and her best friend Lily want to have a great summer before college, Hadley is finally free from a relationship even though her ex still wants her. But nothing will get in the way of the summer to remember. That is, until Will Carson appears back in town. Will, Hadley’s ex-best friend and crush. The Will that left two years prior with no goodbyes. So when Hadley and Will get paired as co-counselors at camp, drama ensues. This Summer kept me interested and reading. I loved uncovering the secrets that Will was hiding and I enjoyed seeing Hadley flounder with his reappearance. There was some deep things going on with Will that I wasn’t expecting going into the novel but I thought it brought on a nice touch. The novel had me constantly cracking up with the events that took place in the novel. It also had me feeling sad at points as well. The pacing was great and I was engaged from the beginning until the end of the novel. Hadley wanted a summer to remember and that is definitely what she got. Hadley was one of those characters who were easy to […]

Blog Tour Review: Teaching Roman by Gennifer Albin

Check out my review of Catching Liam (Good Girls Don’t #1) Check out my review of Unwrapping Liam (Good Girls Don’t #1.5) I adored Jillian and Liam’s story in Catching Liam and was interested to see what Gennifer Albin came up with for Jessica’s story. For me, Teaching Roman wasn’t as strongly written of a novel. It seemed rushed at times and it was a bit unrealistic at points. Jess was part of a pretty recent break up after she refused to marry her boyfriend–and literally days later is lusting after her old professor? The timeline of the novel just didn’t feel realistic for me. In addition to that, things moved at a pretty rapid pace but were predictable. It was easy for me to figure out what was going to happen next, which took away from how much I enjoyed the novel. Jessica was a character that I could relate to in Catching Liam. In this novel it was like that at times, but at other moments in the novel it was like she was another person. She completely shed her good-girl personality at multiple points in the novel. The 180 in personality was startling at times and kind of messed with the flow of the novel. Instead of getting to know a character deeper in this novel I had to get to know a completely new character, it […]
