Review: Confess by Colleen Hoover

One word. Er, acronym. Three letters. (If you’ve read the book you probably know which word I’m talking about.) OMG. This booked ruined me in the most beautiful way. I knew it would happen, it was written by Colleen Hoover. But I loved it. Every heart-warming — and breaking– moment of it. We meet our main character, Auburn, in one of the darkest times in her life. She’s just had to say goodbye to someone she loves, and moves away to try to make a life for herself. First day in her new ‘home’ she meets the artistic and somewhat flirty Owen. The story progresses over a few days, and then a few weeks, and by the end of the book I felt like I knew these characters for much longer than I had. Absolutely stunning. I cried both happy tears and sad tears (and devastated tears). Hoover knows how readers want to feel deep in their chests when they’re reading about characters like Auburn and Owen. They aren’t perfect people, they are realistic, and so is their love. Auburn is such a strong female character who fights for what she believes and is willing to sacrifice anything  for the people she loves. I have major respect for this girl, not only for all the shit she has to deal with, but also how she goes about doing it in such […]

Review: Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Review: Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Hunter. Hunter. HUNTER. Man oh man Jennifer knows how to write male characters that you know you should find attractive, but definitely do. Hell, she made ALIENS hot. Okay? Aliens. Um… HOW? Now I know I gave Obsession a five star rating, but let me be clear; the plot was so cliche it was tacky. Girl has normal life, girl gets thrown into supernatural world where she meets hot guy *in swaggers Hunter* who is forced to protect her, girl falls for boy even though she shouldn’t, boy eventually falls for girl and becomes a better man, they live (relatively) happily ever after after a bunch of crazy sh*t goes down. It was entertaining, cliche as it was. But it was Jennifer L. Armentrout, so… As Hazel Grace Lancaster would say to her favourite author, “Frankly, I’d read your grocery lists.” JLA is my go-to gal for entertaining, amazing love stories, and will continue to be until I’ve read every single word she’s written. Probably even after that. #reread The romance was… hot. From the very beginning, the moment Hunter and Serena met, he made his intentions crystal clear. Which I’m still debating if I liked or not. I mean it’s good to know what you want and to go after what you want, but he… he was… well, Hunter. He was forward, to the point, and all consuming. Their romance was […]

Review: Maybe Not by Colleen Hoover

Review: Maybe Not by Colleen Hoover

Since reading Maybe Someday I knew that I wanted to know more about Warren and Bridgette, secondary characters featured in Hoover’s bestselling romance about two people who make music together and fall in love. When I found out that Colleen had written a story for them, a novella to Maybe Someday I knew I had to hop on that! When a girl moves into the apartment Warren and Ridge live in, and Warren has to share a bathroom with her, you just know shit is going to go down. Not only is she a hot Hooters waitress, but she was also filmed in a porno…. a porno that Warren spends the entirety of the book searching for by watching every single porn movie he can. Talk about dedication, right? Bridgette has had a pretty terrible upbringing and has vowed against ever loving someone romantically, and so Warren pretty much walks all over that and turns her life upside down when he won’t let her screw him at night and ignore him during the day. As trashy as the relationship between Warren and Bridgette seems in Maybe Someday and even so in Maybe Not, I get it. I understand why she refuses to open up and accept what she is feeling. However, that only made watching as Warren cracked her open that much more romantic. Her character dynamic clashed with Warren’s in just the right […]

Review: Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Review: Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout

She’s done it again, ladies and gents. Jennifer L. Armentrout has knocked my socks off. Wicked, a self-published first installment in a new series, was absolutely phenomenal. The characters were kick-ass and the story had a great balance of humor, romance, and ass-kicking good times.   Set in New Orleans, Wicked had me hooked. Maybe it’s my love for the setting (The Originals, hellooo.), but it just made the whole story that much more appealing to me. JLA has never written something that I didn’t enjoy, she knows how to tell a gripping, amazing story. As the story carried through I found myself super excited that it wasn’t a stand a lone novel, especially because I really want to explore the world of The Order and maybe hear some more stories from other characters. Ren and Ivy were interesting characters who I fell for and found myself easily connecting with, and Ivy’s journey – finding out what she really wanted and where she fit within The Order was a story I found myself loving from beginning to end. She wanted more from her life than to just be tied to The Order and so she applied for College and attended while still keeping up with her duties to The Order which I couldn’t help but admire. As this giant battle grew closer and closer and things were revealed (and I guessed the […]

Review: Evertrue by Brodi Ashton

I’m going to be blunt right now. I didn’t think I was going to finish Evertrue. The story just took a turn I really didn’t like, and I thought it was sort of a cop out to make a villainous character less of a villain. From the beginning of the series I pined for Cole and Nikki to end up together, even though I think I knew deep down that it wouldn’t work. It was wayyy too dysfunctional to be a justified option for the two characters. But still, I wanted it. Not that I disliked Nikki’s boyfriend, I didn’t. Jack was cool and his love for Nikki was beautiful. (But a tad boring for my tastes). I’ve just got this eternal love for the bad seeds I guess. The beginning picked up where we left off in Everbound and I liked that. Some books that end on cliffhangers do the whole, Six Months Later or whatever and it’s annoying. The rest of the story is quite the journey for all of the characters. It’s a race for Nikki and Jack to find Nik’s heart, stolen by Cole because he wants her for himself, to rule the Everneath beside him. (I’d do it. Pick me. Please. *waves hands*). Each of the characters face impossible tasks and are forced to overcome them and trust one another. This is the installment that really brings the whole […]

Review: Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armen..

Review: Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Being that this is a Jen Armentrout book, my expectations going in were high. Her writing has never let me down and continues not to. Don’t Look Back grabbed my attention from the start and held on tight until it was over. However, this is definitely my least favourite JLA book. Maybe it was the genre, or the absence of Daemon or Jax, but it is what it is. Samantha – The main character, the girl who lost everything but got a chance at a new life. She goes through a lot throughout the story and I admire her strength. I wouldn’t ever want to be in her shoes (even though she owns really nice shoes), but hey, I’d totally take Carson for a spin. Scott – The brother, from the start I had mixed opinions about him. I just had this feeling that he knew way more than he was letting on. He was a bit too shady for my comfort, but I was happy to be wrong about him. Scott was actually a cool guy, and a really supportive brother. Loved him. Carson – The Book Boyfriend. JLA and her swoon-worthy boys, man oh man. Carson and Sam were friends a long time ago and fell apart when she fell into popularity. Not until after the accident did they become close again, and I shipped it. Really hard. […]

Review: Love Story by Jennifer Echols

Review: Love Story by Jennifer Echols

The moment I found out this story was based around two characters writing about each other I. Was. Hooked. Basically, the main character Erin is living my dream (somewhat). She is living in New York City, majoring in Creative Writing, and working in a café. All is well (aside from the fact her dear old grandmother snubbed her trust fund because she wouldn’t major in business and take over the family farm because she wanted to pursue her dream), and she is enjoying her Creative Writing class. Until she’s written a story inspired from her past, where she gets her happy ending with the guy she loves. Except this guy is real, he stole her inheritance and now he’s in her Creative Writing class. Hunter. Ohh, Hunter. He’s… well one of the most impossible and perfect book boyfriends I’ve come across. He doesn’t mind at all that he stole Erin’s entire life, but at the same time I just could not hate him. Maybe it was because he was a writer. And hot. He was a huge part of Erin’s past and now that he was back in it (whether she wanted him there or not), I figured it was only a matter of time before they got together. When they went to the horse race with the rest of the gang there were some definite sparks and I got […]
