Review: Fairy Bad Day by Amanda Ashby

Favorite Quote(s): “‘I see, so you’re telling me that i I asked you to do anything, you would say yes?’ he asked with interest, and Emma felt a reluctant smile sneak up to her mouth. ‘Don’t push your luck.’” Favorite Character: Emma. Her determination at becoming a dragon slayer is very admirable, and she was an overall great heroine. First Line: “‘Demon, definitely,’ Emma Jones whispered as another sophomore made his way from Principal Kessler’s office to where everyone was waiting on the grassy quad.” My Musings: Amanda Ashby is an author I wish I had heard about sooner. This novel was a fun, interesting read, with quirky romance and a stubborn heroine. The plot kept me wanting more, and I was happy with the way the book turned out. Emma has been training to be a dragon slayer all her life—she anxiously wants to follow in her mother’s foot steps. However, Emma is shocked to find that she has been assigned as a fairy slayer, and she is adamant that some sort of mistake has been made, and that Curtis Green has wrongly taken her dragon slaying spot. However, Emma ends up being the only one that can see an evil, gigantic fairy, that is intent on killing the unknown Pure One and unleashing all sorts of evil beings into Earth. As Emma discovers that her mother, world-reknowned dragon slayer, somehow […]

Review: Pure by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Check out my review of Half-Blood (Covenant #1) Favorite Quote(s): “Seth threw me a mischievous grin. ‘I can’t have Marcus just walking in on us. What if I want to snuggle on these cold New York nights?’ My frown increased. ‘We don’t snuggle.’ He dropped his arm over my shoulder, and the scent of mint and something wild tickled my nose. ‘How about we cuddle?’ ‘We don’t do that either.’ ‘But you’re my cuddle bunny. My little Apollyon cuddle—’ I punched him in the side.” “’Ever since I’ve met you, I’ve wanted to break every rule.’ Aiden turned away, the muscles in his neck tensing. He sighed. ‘You’ll become the center of someone’s world one day. And he’ll be the luckiest son of a bitch on this earth.’” Favorite Character: Seth. Like in Half-Blood, his cocky and sarcastic persona reeled me in. I found myself wanting more of Seth, and less of everyone else. First Line: “I stared at the ceiling of the gymnasium, little black splotches dancing in front of me.” My Musings: This series just keeps getting better and better. This book was a very exciting read, and I didn’t want to put it down for even a minute. In this novel, we follow Alex at the Council Session, where she learns that there is someone out there who wants to kill her or put her in servitude before she […]

Stacking the Shelves (1)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews to share what books you’ve bought, borrowed, received, or won.   Bought: Secrets of the sea have never been sexier than this.      Ever since the death of her parents, Miranda has lived on Whym Island, taking comfort in the local folklore, which claims a mysterious sea witch controls the fate of all on the island and in its surrounding waters. Sometimes it’s just easier to believe things are out of your control.         But then a terrible boating accident takes the lives of several of her friends, and Miranda is rescued by a mysterious boy who haunts her dreams. Consumed by guilt from the accident, she finds refuge in late-night swims—and meets Christian, a boy who seems eerily familiar, but who is full of mystery: He won’t tell her where he is from, or why they can only meet at the beach. But Miranda falls for him anyway…and discovers that Christian’s secrets, though meant to protect her, may bring her nothing but harm.         Seductive and compelling, Wrecked brings a contemporary, paranormal twist to a classic enchanting tale.     Borrowed:     Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she’ll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. Review: Half-blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Favorite Quote(s): “‘Alex, stop staring at me and do some cardio.’ He flipped another page. I blinked. ‘I hoppe that book of yours is on charm and personality skills.’” “Suddenly he bent at the waist and swooped in. He was so damn fast I didn’t even have a chance to jerk back, which by the way, is totally a natural reaction when the Apollyon comes at someone that quickly. He brushed his lips over my forehead, lingering only long enough I could be positive he’d placed a gentle kiss against my skin before straightening.” Favorite character: Seth. His annoying and sarcastic nature is very enduring, and it kept me wanting more Alex/Seth moments. First Line: “My eyes snapped open as the freakish sixth sense kicked my fight or flight response into overdrive.” My Musings: Jennifer L. Armentrout has done it again—this book had me completely hooked! I was so hooked on Obsidian, I just had to start this other series by Armentrout. It was absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to finish writing up this review so I can start the next book, Pure. Alexandria (who insists on being called Alex) is a half blood—a mix of human and god. Half bloods have two choices in life: become a Sentinel or Guard, or live of life of servitude under the compulsion of an Elixir, which basically leaves them an empty shell. Alex’s […]

My Book Boyfriend (1)

A weekly meme, hosted by The Unread Reader, in which we swoon over boys in books! This week’s book boyfriend is:Archer Crossfrom the Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins “Archer Cross, resident bad boy and total heartthrob. Warlock. Every girl here is at least, like, half in love with him. Crushing on Archer Cross might as well be a class.” Facts about Archer: Warlock Came to Hecate Hall at the age of 14 Once betrothed to the deceased Holly Curly dark brown hair Dark brown Eyes Thin but Muscular “Resident Heartthrob” Witty and sarcastic Works for the L’Occhio di Dio “‘Yeah, and we still have to deal with The Eye being…Eyeish, and me learning to be the Head of the Council, which will probably involve lots of boring books and–‘ Archer pressed his mouth to mine, effectively shutting me up and kissing the hell out of me. When he pulled back, he was grinning. ‘And you have an arrogant, screwed-up former demon hunter who is stupidly in love with you.’”-Rachel Hawkins, Spell Bound “There was a sensible part of me somewhere that clutched its pearls and hissed that I better not give up my V- card in a CELLAR, but when Archer’s hands slid under my shirt and onto the skin of my back, I started thinking that a cellar was as good a place as any.”-Rachel Hawkins, Hex Hall […]

Teaser Tuesday (1)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. “My shoulders slumped. ‘I have to practice with you all day?’ Seth spun around in front of me, the perpetual, cocksure grin on his face. ‘You have to spend all day with me. Every day. For as long as we’re here.’ I stared at him. He clapped his hands together, letting out a rather high-pitched squeal before grabbing my hand. ‘Oh, we are going to have so much fun! Aren’t we? Fun, Alex– we will have fun.’ We weren’t having fun.” Pure, by Jennifer Armentrout

Review: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Check out my review of Shadows (Lux #0.5) Favorite Quote(s):  “My lips pressed into a hard line. ‘You’re such an ass. Has…anyone ever told you that?’ He flashed a genuinely amused smile. ‘Oh, Kitten, every single day of my blessed life.’” “‘We aren’t weak. And you’re on our planet. How about a little respect, buddy.’” Favorite Character: I’m going to have to go with Daemon as my favorite character. Although he was a total douchebag most of the book, he had this certain vulnerability that pulled you in. Like Katy, I totally fell for him by the second chapter. His sarcasm and teasing is witty and there were a lot of laugh aloud moments for me. There was never a dull moment with Daemon in the picture! First Line:  “I stared at the pile of boxes in my new bedroom, wishing the Internet had been hooked up.” My Musings: Oh gosh…This book absolutely blew me away. I’m pretty certain that it just bumped Sing me to Sleep out of its first place spot on my favorite books list. At first I had a few doubts about the book–who really wants to read about aliens? I have to say though, I am extremely glad that I bought this book. Armentrout’s idea of writing about aliens was brilliant–and the fact that Daemon was not hard on the eyes was a complete bonus! So, Katy has just […]

Review: Spell Bound by Rachel Hawkins

Favorite Quote(s):  “‘Um…Mercer? Haven’t seen you in nearly a month. I was expecting something like, ‘Oh Cross, love of my heart, fire of my loins, how I’ve longed–”” “Archer shrugged. ‘We’ve tried to kill each other, fought ghouls, and kissed a lot. I’m pretty sure we’re married in some cultures.’” Favorite Character: Archer. His sarcasm and wit kept me laughing throughout the entire book. First Line:  “There are times when magic really sucks.” My musings: Wow! Where to start? It took me about 5 hours to read this book—it was impossible to put down! It starts off with Sophie coming to in the middle of the forest. After a confrontation with a were and getting beat to the ground by a 12 (excuse me, 14) year old, Sophie finds herself at the Brannicks compound. From then on, it’s an action packed course as Sophie tries to save the world from Lara and her demon army. I have been anticipating reading this book ever since I finished the first novel, Hex Hall. Hawkins’ writing is captivating and variegated—there is almost never a dull moment! The characters were well rounded, and you were able to see the transitions in personality and leadership in not only Sophie, but Archer, cal, and Jenna as well. I absolutely loved Sophie and Jenna’s relationship. I adored their constant banter and teasing, as well as them being there for each other […]
