Review: Search by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Check out my review of Soar (The Empire Chronicles #1) Search is the second installment in the companion series to The Crescent Chronicles. The first novel was great, so was really excited to read book two. Search takes place after we find out that Casey isn’t exactly human—in fact, she has wings. Black ones, in particular. So of course, that creates problems, especially once they find out who her father is. I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t talk about that point. Nonetheless, it throws a wrench in everything. I thought this installment was definitely more interesting than the previous one, especially because we have a few battle scenes and a kidnapping. It was an intense book. Casey was definitely stronger in this novel, especially given all of the knowledge that was being thrown at her. I thought she held up very well and that she handled the situations she was in strongly and bravely. I am interested to see how she will handle the problems that were presented at the end of this book. Toby was definitely the better of the two in this book. I had favored him before this installment, and even more so afterwards. Jared, on the other hand, is a total flake. My previous description of him as a jerk definitely still stands, and was even proven, in this installment. We see something […]

Amazon | Barnes and Noble | iTunes | GooglePlay | Kobo The light beckoned. It wasn’t white; it was more a combination of every color I’d ever seen. I was ready to accept it, to move on to a place of warmth, but then I heard her cry. I heard Mary Anne’s sobs, and every moment from the past few days flew through my mind. I saw her face. I felt her skin, her lips. I heard her voice begging for me. I couldn’t leave her behind. I tried to push through the fog, but her voice only seemed farther […]

Review: Soar by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Soar is the first installment to a companion series to The Crescent Chronicles. I absolutely adored The Crescent Chronicles and I was curious as to what happens to the side characters in that series. Soar follows a girl named Casey, who has taken a semester off of college in order to save up money for tuition. One night while taking out the trash, she is attacked by a large wolf and her life is completely turned upside down. Soar was interesting in a different way from The Crescent Chronicles series, but I still enjoyed it. This novel had the mystery that we were actively trying to figure out: why was Casey attacked? Then throw in the cute guy who bought coffee at the coffeehouse she worked at and her somewhat-mean and creepy manager, and you have a very interesting story. Casey was a lot different than Allie, in my opinion. Casey was tough and hardworking. At first, she wanted absolutely nothing to do with all of the craziness that she was going though. I think that she adapted pretty well, especially seeing as she was attacked by a giant wolf. I liked her. She was pretty simple and funny. There are three potential love interests introduced in this novel, but based on Casey’s reactions, there were only really two options. Toby is a pteron (Allie’s ex-lover) and the guy who […]

Review: Eyes Turned Skyward by Rebecca Yarros

Check out my review of Full Measures (Flight & Glory #1) I absolutely loved Rebecca Yarros’ debut novel, Full Measures. I actually didn’t know that Eyes Turned Skyward focused on Josh’s best friend Jagger until I was in the thick of it. But that made it all the better. Eyes Turned Skyward was a more emotionally dramatic book as compared to Full Measures. It didn’t quite tickle my fancy as much as Full Measures, but it was still engaging. There was more emotional turmoil in this novel, with Paisley, the main character, hiding a medical secret that killed her older sister and counting down the days of her life left to live. On the other hand, you had Jagger, who came with a ton of emotional baggage from his family. It was an interesting read that kept me engaged, nonetheless. Paisley was a bit morbid in my opinion and she was quite the hardheaded character. She was holding on to the past that it got annoying at many points. Regardless, she was a decent main character to read about. She really grew over the course of the novel, and it was fun to watch her evolve as a character, especially in regards to things such as her family and Will. It was nice to see more of Jagger in this novel. He was hiding some secrets that I would never […]

Blog Tour Review: Perfect Couple by Jennifer Echol..

Blog Tour Review: Perfect Couple by Jennifer Echols

I had been eyeing this series for a while now, with Biggest Flirts having caught my attention when it came out, so I jumped on the opportunity to read this companion novel. Perfect Couple was a pretty cute and fluffy contemporary young adult novel. It followed main charter Harper, the weird photographer for her school yearbook, who was paired with football star Brody in the Perfect Couple That Never Was superlative. The awarding of that title pretty much spurred on the feelings that the two had been harboring for each other, and they decide that if the school thought they should be together, that they would give it a try. Perfect Couple wasn’t dry or anything. It was pretty entertaining. However, it wasn’t anything special in terms of plot or characters. It wasn’t boring, by any means, but it wasn’t necessarily a completely captivating read. Harper was actually not my favorite character to read. I was constantly rolling my eyes at both her narration and her actions–she came off as quite childish for a majority of the novel, with it getting to almost unbearable near the climax of the story. She was a pushover but at the same time, she was almost paranoid of what other people thought of her. She let other people’s opinions change who she was, and that was a trait that I did not like about […]

Review: Model Position by Kitsy Clare

Review: Model Position by Kitsy Clare

The reason I picked up this novel is because I saw the second book in the series’ synopsis and I was hooked. However, I had no idea that it was an actual series—I was under the impression that they were standalones. Regardless, due to my want to read book two, I picked up book one and got to it. Regardless of the interesting premise that book one, too, possessed, I just couldn’t get into this novel. The plot was less than stellar, which was a real bummer. I had to push myself to finish the novel. There wasn’t much going on, plot-wise, to keep me hooked, so everything fell on the shoulders of the characters. The characters, too, were less than I was hoping for. Sienna, the main character, seemed extremely shallow and fake to me. She was trying to use a boy in order to get a shop at a gallery opening. Sure, she apologizes later, but still. And she was a bit flaky with her romances anyway. She actually came across as a bit of a whore, which was an instant turn off for me. Erik was the main love interest—a model who also day lighted as an artist himself. He was full of mystery and secrets. He didn’t do much for me either—I felt like we were seeing a paper thin glimpse into his character. I couldn’t […]

Review: Dire by Alyssa Rose Ivy

I have read and enjoyed various novels written by Alyssa Rose Ivy, so when I saw that she had a new series, taking place in the same world as The Crescent and Empire Chronicles, I was curious as to where the story would lead. Dire wasn’t a bad book. It wasn’t, however, as enjoyable as some of Ivy’s other novels. Dire focuses on a girl named Mary Ann who takes a road trip with her long-time crush, Gage, back home. They, however, end up stranded, and are essentially kidnapped by a pack of Dire wolves. And their leader, Hunter, wants to take Mary Ann as his mate. Dire was interesting, to say the least. I felt as if there were a few fuzzy areas within the plot, which I hope will be clarified in the next novel. The pacing was good, and there weren’t many slow spots once Mary Ann and Gage met the wolves. There were a lot of things going on in this book, and I am interested to see how the plot thickens in the second installment. Mary Ann was an okay female protagonist, but she wasn’t my favorite. At moments, I found myself disliking her because I just felt like she wasn’t the brightest of characters. Also, she seemed a bit one dimensional to me. Regardless of that, she was a very caring character. She was […]

Mini-Review: Found by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Check out my review of Flight (The Crescent Chronicles #1) Check out my review of Focus (The Crescent Chronicles #2) Found is the final installment in The Crescent Chronicles, and I am so sad to see this series coming to an end! But it went out with a bang—everything culminates in this last thrilling installment. Toby has Jess as a hostage and Allie is trying to figure out just how important she is in the scheme of Pteron politics. There was a ton of action in this novel, and at times, my heart was absolutely pounding. It was definitely an interesting read that kept me hooked from page one to the very last page. Allie was particularly independent in this novel, and I liked seeing that. She took matters into her own hands, especially because things seemed to revolve around her. She was selfless and brave and risked a lot to get her friend to safety. I felt like she was truly acting as the Queen she would become. The romance between Allie and Levi was as swoony as always—that is, when they weren’t arguing. Regardless, they are one of my favorite couples of all time, so I hope that they end up making cameo appearances in the spin off series, The Empire Chronicles. It is seriously heartbreaking to let them go. Found was an amazing close to an absolutely […]
