At 21, Calla hasn’t done a lot of things. She’s never been kissed, never seen the ocean, never gone to an amusement park. But growing up, she witnessed some things no child ever should. She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.
But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now, Calla has to go back to the small town she thought she'd left behind and clean up her mom’s mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother’s bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming.
Sexy and intense, Jax is in Calla’s business from the moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she’s got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn’t give them her mom.
Check out my review of Wait for You (Wait for You #1)
I have adored every single on of JLA’s novels so of course when the opportunity was given to me to be a part of this blog tour raised, I jumped on it!
Stay with Me focuses on Calla, a character that I hadn’t seen much as I have yet to read Be with Me. Calla’s story was definitely drama filled. As in, drugs, hit men, and possible death and destruction. It was a totally different type of drama than Avery and Cam’s story but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It never got boring and the events kept me on my toes.
Calla was definitely served a tough hand in this novel but never once did she come off as weak. She was a very strong character, in my opinion, and she was very brave in dealing with the things that were thrown her way. Like Avery, she had a past. She kept it a secret from her friends for a bit, but even that didn’t deter me from enjoying her character. She was very kind and selfless while also determined and brave.
Jax was something a bit different. He wasn’t part of the “Hot Guy Brigade” as Calla put it. In fact, he didn’t go to their college as the majority of this novel was set in Calla’s hometown. He had a past of his own and his own problems to deal with and yet put his life on the line to protect Calla, a girl he barely knew. He came off as a very protective and heroic type of character. He was a bit on the sarcastic side but he was also very kind. I think that I actually may have liked him better than Cam! (le gasp!)
The romance in this novel was simmering hot just like all of JLA’s romances. This one had a bit of a danger element that kept it unique and there were feelings of suspense when they were together. I enjoyed them together because I felt as if they helped each other mature into better characters. JLA definitely didn’t let us down in the romance department in this one. Or the swoon-worthy guy department!
We see a bit of Theresa, Jase, Avery, and Cam in this novel. It actually made me really want to read Be with Me, which I posses yet have not read yet. And maybe I’ll re-read Wait for You as well! They’re all great characters and I really enjoyed their appearances in this installment.
Like all the other JLA novels that I’ve read to date, this one also blew me away. A bit different from Cam and Avery’s story with a bit of edginess and danger, this is definitely one that you don’t want to pass up!
