Welcome back to The Shade...

"Of course you know who I am. I'm a daughter of the darkness just as surely as you are his son..."

Ever since his brief encounter with Emilia at The Shade, Derek's thoughts and dreams have been haunted with images of the mysterious, beautiful brunette. Plagued with guilt, he struggles to understand why he is so drawn to this dark stranger from his past.

When Emilia suddenly appears again on the island, Derek is both terrified and intrigued. But this time, he is determined to involve Sofia and discover who this woman is.

If only Derek and Sofia knew, Emilia is a mystery that should be left undiscovered...

Favorite Quote(s):

“‘You on the other hand…there’s something about you, Derek Novak…that makes it easy for me to forgive and forget your numerous offenses against me. What is it about you?’

I raised a brow at her, unable to keep the grin from forming on my lips. ‘I think it’s the charm. You can’t resist my charm.'”

Favorite Character: Sofia.
First Line:

“The moment I opened my eyes and woke up to the dim candle light of my bedroom, I couldn’t help but groan.”

My Musings: First, I want to start off saying that Bella Forrest is both a phenomenal writer and person. She has created a unique world of vampires with this series, unlike anything that I’ve read before.

So much happens in A Blaze of Sun! There’s talk of a cure, the return of a new enemy, an attack…and maybe something a little sweeter. This books was a fast-tracked roller coaster that just didn’t stop, which made it, of course, keep me pulled in until the very last page. I was actually sad when I tried to turn the page and there were no more! This novel definitely had the right mix of action in it. Everything in the Shade starts coming to a boil, and some of the things that happen will leave you in an OMG state of mind.

As always, the characters were great. Derek and Sofia had a few relationship issues though. With the return of Emilia, the strange attraction between her and Derek returned. However, after some close counters, of course our favorite couple pulled through…or did they? There were definitely some very shocking moments, romance wise in this book. This just added to the overall thrill, knowing that the seemingly unbreakable couple was having problems.

“You love me, Sofia,” I reminded her, a smile creeping onto my face. “I’ve been a fool, but you still love me.”

Sofia is a character that I can sympathize with as well as admire because of this book. Sofia has always been a strong independent character, but we really see that in this novel more than any of the others. She really had to step up and take control of the Shade, regardless of what was happening to her personally. She really became the Queen of the Shade in this novel.

Poor Derek had some struggles in this book. He struggled with his love for Sofia. And although it never wavered, it did swing like a pendulum. It was heartbreaking to see all the pain that he inflicted upon himself and how much he beat himself up about it. But some really awesome things happened later in the novel that really made up for it. And I have no doubt that our favorite couple will make it through anything that is thrown at them in the upcoming novel.

A Blaze of Sun was all thrills. It kept me engaged and wondering what would become of the Shade, Sofia and Derek, and the evils attacking them. This is definitely is a book and series I can recommend to all lovers of things paranormal. And even those who aren’t, I believe can find something special in this series.

About Bella Forrest

I guess my life as a writer started when I was five; I’d sit under the kitchen table with my box of multi-colored wax crayons (I miss those) and create picture books. Creative writing was always my favorite subject and I used any free time I had to sit down with a notepad.

Not much has changed, except that now I have developed vampirish habits: my writing “day” typically starts at 1am.

I’m an avid reader and a big fan of cookie ice cream. When working I have to disconnect the internet for fear of being endlessly distracted by websites such as
